The Common Core State Standards clarify topics which must be covered at various levels of learning. This workshop will examine the “big picture” concepts which form the foundation of the Common Core and address instruction using manipulative objects and multiple representations. Participants will practice modeling math concepts in the areas of numeracy, place value, addition/subtraction, multiplication/division, and fractions.

PROGRAM WILL COVER

  • Current research concerning math disabilities,
  • Common Core State Standards and Universal Design for Learning,
  • Importance of using hands-on manipulatives to model math concepts, and
  • Importance of using appropriate language to reinforce math concepts.

PROGRAM IS DESIGNED FOR

  • General and special education teachers working in math from basic skills to algebra,
  • Speech-language pathologists, and
  • Academic language therapists.
