Provost’s Message Regarding Assistant Provost for International Programs Search

With the expansion of our international profile and presence, focus on student success, global collaborative opportunities and eye towards expanding all of our international initiatives, finding the right person to lead these efforts is crucial for the success of our international presence and continued advancement of our academic and research programs at The University of Southern Mississippi.
I am pleased to announce that we have established an outstanding search committee with broad experience and knowledge that will lead to a highly successful search for the Assistant Provost for International Programs position. Allison Gillespie, Assistant to the Provost for Academic Affairs, has agreed to chair the search committee. Other members of the search committee include:
Dave Duhon, Chair and Professor, Department of Management and International Business
Edward Hafer, Associate Professor, School of Music
Chris Miles, Chair and Associate Professor, Department of Foreign Languages and Literature
Robert Press, Associate Professor, Department of Political Science
Rafael Sánchez, Interim Director International Programs
Jae-Hwa Shin, Associate Professor, School of Mass Communications and Journalism
Shuyan Wang, Associate Professor, Department of Curriculum, Instruction and Special Education
Barbara Whitt Jackson, Director, International Student and Scholar Services
Andy Wiest, Moorman Distinguished Alumni Professor in the Humanities, Department of History
The committee will conduct all aspects of the search including review of applicants, initial interviews, campus interviews, and recommendation of preferred candidates to the Provost. After identifying a strong pool of candidates, the committee will conduct interviews during the Fall 2013 semester in a collaborative process with the college and the campus community. Appointment of Assistant Provost will be effective January 1, 2014 or as soon as possible thereafter.
I wish to extend my thanks to those members of the university community who have agreed to serve on this search committee and to those who have provided counsel in preparing for this important search.
