
Dr. Robert D. Lyman, Provost

Dr. Robert D. Lyman has served as Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at Southern Miss since June 2008. Dr. Lyman came to Southern Miss from Appalachian State University in Boone, NC, where he was Dean of the College of Arts & Sciences.
Dr. Lyman graduated from Brown University with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and he earned his Masters and Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the University of Alabama. He has served as a faculty member at the University of Alabama in Birmingham, at the University of Alabama, where he was Chair of the Department of Psychology and Director of a research, training, and service program in the area of child mental health, and at North Georgia State College and University, where he served as Dean of the School of Arts & Letters.
He is a well-published scholar in Psychology with more than 90 academic publications and presentations to his credit. He is a licensed and board certified Clinical Psychologist with over 25 years experience in consulting and clinical practice. He has also been active in Psychology licensure and accreditation at the state and national levels.
