The Writing Center

The Southern Miss English Department has had in continuous operation since 1982 a Writing Center where students receive intensive one-on-one tutoring in originating material as well as focusing and revising already-drafted writing. To enhance the services provided by the Writing Center, the QEP Leadership Team provided additional funding and support so that the center could extend its efforts further and serve more students from across all disciplines.

As part of this initiative, the QEP Leadership Team established a Writing Lab as a writing-dedicated computer lab outfitted with up-to-date computers equipped with writing and editing software. Beginning summer 2008, the Writing Center and Writing Lab on the Hattiesburg campus will move to Cook Library and be combined into one comprehensive University Writing Center. This year also marks a new home for the Writing Center on the Gulf Coast to the Gulf Park Library. The changes will bring an increase in size, accessibility, and visibility for the writing centers which recorded over 1000 student visits in fall 2007.
