The University of Southern Mississippi welcomes all professional staff, students, vendors, community members and fitness/wellness professionals to our recreational facility titled the Payne Center. Our facility is equipped with a 27,000 square foot gymnasium with four multi-purpose courts, an indoor suspended track, a 7,900 square foot Work Out Zone (WOZ), a Wisteria Circuit Training Room, and a natatorium which features our 25 yard, 6 lane indoor pool. Southern Miss Rec Sports is proud to be hosting the first Mississippi/Alabama Fitness Expo in the fall semester of 2014.
The mission of the Mississippi/Alabama Fitness Expo is to continue our students’ fitness, wellness and leadership development by giving them the opportunity to experience new and upcoming fitness trends while focusing on the basics of living a healthy lifestyle. This expo will allow students, professional staff and community members to present their favorite fitness and wellness topics while they continue to absorb valuable information in the areas of Group Exercise, Personal Training, Health/Wellness/Nutrition and Administration. We will be expecting a large turn out from universities and community health organizations across the Southern region that all share the same ambition: to increase our knowledge and skills within the fitness and wellness world through collegiate recreation, community wellness and continuing education sessions.
Attendees will include group exercise instructors, personal trainers, wellness embassadors/professionals/public speakers, nutritionists, fitness/wellness students, graduate assistants and collegiate recreational professional staff.
Our theme, Fitting Into Fitness: No One Size Fits All, is centered around creating a fitness environment that is welcoming to everyone. This includes individuals who are in the very beginning stages of changing their lifestyle habits all the way up to the advanced fitness professionals who have been exercising and living healthy lifestyles for years. We as health promoters have a job to do. We have to strive to fit everyone into fitness!
