S.M.O.P. (Southern Miss Outdoor Programs) is returning and bringing tons of fun along with new locations for trips such as hiking, rafting, camping and survival clinics.
October 9: Clinic #3: How to Pack a Backpacking Backpack - FREE
So, you’ve learned how to pack snacks, pitch a tent, and cook, but what if you are backpacking? Learn how to properly and efficiently pack a backpacking backpack from our educated SMOP Staff on September 9 from 7-9 p.m. in the Payne Center.
October 30: Clinic #4 Map Reading and Navigation - FREE
We’ve been taking you on these great trips all semester, but the ultimate test of a true outdoor lover is knowing how to get to your destination from your starting point! Come in and learn how to read a map and navigate yourself around the outdoors. The clinic will take place from 7-9 p.m. in the Payne Center.
November 2: Louisiana Swamp Tour- $25
Are you a thrill seeker? Ever seen Gator Boys? Come join us for an adventure-packed day on the bayous of Louisiana, promised to be packed with all kinds of wildlife, from gators to fish, and more! We will depart for the bayou from the Payne Center at 8 a.m. and return later in the afternoon.
November 9: Hike to Little Black Creek- $10
We loved it so much we had to return! Come out and either experience this beautiful hike for the first time, or re-live your trip in September! This is a healthy and beautiful way to start your Saturday! We’ll leave the Payne Center at 8 a.m. and return around 4 p.m.
November 16: Camping at Paul B. Johnson Campsite- $20
The final trip of the semester! Join us for an end of semester camping trip at the Paul B. Johnson Campsite. This is a great time to show off your skills learned at all the clinics during the semester! We will depart for the campsite at 9 a.m. and return Sunday mid-day. This is a great way to relax and immerse yourself in nature before the stress of finals approaches!
