Intramural Sports Programs

The Southern Miss Recreational Sports staff invites you to participate in an action-packed competitive intramural Sports program. More than 40 activities are offered, featuring team and individual/dual competition. The goals of Recreational Sports are to be as diverse as possible and to offer each student the opportunity to participate, regardless of ability.

The Intramural Sports program is open to all undergraduate and graduate students currently enrolled at the university who are eligible for intramural competition. All faculty and staff are required to purchase a REC card to participate in intramural sports.

The Intramural Sports program is designed to match equally skilled organizations in various activities to meet physical as well as recreational needs. Team, individual and dual competitions will take place in the following divisions: fraternity, men’s residence, men’s independent, sorority, women’s residence, women’s independent and co-rec.

Recreational Sports employ a large number of students each year to aid in conducting our different programs. These students are employed in the areas of clerical assistance, welcome center, facility management, fitness, public relations, aquatics, fitness assessment, and intramural sports. Specifically, intramural sports hires officials, timekeepers and scorekeepers. No previous experience is necessary as each person is trained thoroughly before the start of each sport.

These are paying positions giving students the opportunity to work throughout the entire school year with extremely flexible hours. Interested persons should contact Matt Seibring in the Recreational Sports office (601.266.5405) between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, for additional information.
