All guests and candidates for graduation with physical disabilities may contact the Office of Disability Studies at 601-266-5024.

There will be no rehearsal for the ceremony. Candidates should begin reporting to the Coliseum at 2:00 p.m. and must be in their seats by 2:45 p.m. (Candidates do not participate in a processional march). No one will be seated after the ceremony begins.

Candidates for graduation who use a mobility device (e.g. scooter, walker, wheelchair) are asked to provide this information on the RSVP Commencement seating request. This information is needed to ensure appropriate seating assignments on the Coliseum floor.

FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974)

According to FERPA policy, students with a FERPA restriction on their USM records will not be listed in the Commencement program.

Any changes in FERPA must be made prior to September 18, 2009 for printing deadlines.

Candidates should be seated in the designated areas on the Coliseum floor in the following order:

  • doctoral candidates (Row 1)

  • specialist's and master's degree candidates (behind Doctoral candidates)

  • bachelor's degree candidates (by college, as directed by floor marshals)

Doctoral candidates and their major professors will receive additional reporting information from the Office of Graduate Studies. Students may check the Web site at www.usm.edu/graduatestudies to view this information. Any questions regarding this information, please contact the Office of Graduate Studies at (601) 266-4369.

Specialist's and master's degree candidates will be seated alphabetically by degree. Bachelor's degree candidates will be seated alphabetically by college. Assistants will be positioned at each row to indicate when to stand and move to the stage. ALL CANDIDATES MUST HAVE A SEATING CARD IN ORDER TO PARTICIPATE IN THE CEREMONY.

When you start across the stage, hand your seating card to the announcer. After your name has been called, you will walk across the stage to receive a diploma case. A professional photographer will take pictures as diploma cases are received. Details concerning purchasing prints will be mailed from the photographer.

NOTE: Guests are not to enter the floor area during the ceremony. Failure by guests to remain in the stands causes obstruction of the walk area and is disruptive to the ceremony. A photographer's point will be designated on the east side of the floor.
