About Y2I

Y2I (Year 2 Initiative), a living-learning opportunity, is designed specifically for rising sophomores. Participating students will live in McCarty Hall. Together, they will take advantage of events designed to bolster academic achievement, increase career preparedness, support social responsibility and engagement, and encourage civic leadership and involvement.

  • Networking opportunities within the community by engaging faculty, university administrators, student leaders and potential employers, as well as state, local, and national governmental agencies

TO SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETE THE Y2I PROGRAM, YOU MUST:

  • Attend all mandatory sessions (provided by Y2I)
    • One Retreat - fall semester
    • Two Academic Programs - one per semester
    • Two Social Programs - one per semester
    • Two Career Development Programs - one per semester
    • Two Civic Involvements - one per semester
    • Two Field Trips - one per semester
      • Hattiesburg City Government (fall)
      • Jackson State Government (spring)
  • Obtain a 3.0 GPA
  • Complete all required service hours
  • Remain in good standing with Y2I, Southern Miss, and Residence Life
