Education of Migratory
Children
(Title I, Part C)
The basic purpose of the Migratory
Education Program is to establish or
improve programs of education for
children of qualifying migrant
workers in order that migrant
children may succeed in the regular
school program, attain grade-level
proficiency and meet the challenging
content and student performance
standards that all children are
expected to meet.
Migrant programs are designed to
implement the following:
Ensure that migratory
children benefit from state and
local systemic reforms;
Prepare migratory
children to make a successful
transition to post-secondary
education or employment;
Help reduce the
educational disruptions and
other problems that result from
repeated moves. (This may be
done as extended-time activities
that offer opportunities for
migrant students to be actively
engaged in challenging learning
experiences.);
Ensure that migratory
children are provided with
appropriate educational
services, including supportive
services, that address their
special needs in a coordinated
and efficient manner;
Help migratory
children overcome cultural and
language barriers, social
isolation, various
health-related problems, and
other factors that inhibit the
ability to do well in school.
