A Legend Comes Home: Honoring Chuck Scarborough, Oct. 24
Dear Southern Miss Mass Communication and Journalism Alumni and Supporters:
I’m pleased to announce that the seventh annual Southern Miss School of Mass Communication and Journalism Symposium will coincide in 2013 with the university’s Homecoming activities, the ribbon-cutting for our new home in College Hall and an induction ceremony for one of the university’s most distinguished alumni into the school’s Hall of Fame. Chuck Scarborough, a 1969 graduate who has served as the main news anchor at WNBC-TV in New York for nearly 40 years, will be honored Thursday, October 24 at this year’s symposium: “A Legend Comes Home: Honoring Chuck Scarborough.”
The symposium will include a luncheon at which time we will induct Mr. Scarborough into the MCJ Hall of Fame. Alum David Sheffield, film and television writer and 2008 inductee into the MCJ Hall of Fame, will deliver the luncheon’s keynote remarks. These two men worked together at WDAM-TV while students at Southern Miss and later at NBC in New York. Proceeds from the event will benefit the College Hall fund and scholarships named for former professors; contributions to those scholarships will support our efforts to name spaces in College Hall for those professors.
Tickets for the lucheon are $50, and can be purchase by contacting Mandy Nace at 601.266.4196 or email@example.com. You can also print the reply_form (PDF) and mail it in with your payment. If you travel to Hattiesburg for the symposium, please consider staying for the College Hall ribbon-cutting ceremony on October 25 and the Homecoming football game against North Texas on October 26.
This is a particularly historic moment for the School of Mass Communication and Journalism, so I hope you’ll be able to join us for the symposium. If not, please consider making a tax-deductible contribution to support the MCJ Building Fund or scholarships that honor past faculty members. You can go to The Campaign for Mass Comm website: www.usmfoundation.com/masscomm.
As always, many thanks for your support of the School of Mass Communication and Journalism.
