MAB Day 2013

On Thursday, April 18, a group of mass communication professionals from around the state will spend the day visiting with students from USM’s School of Mass Communication and Journalism, and local junior colleges. The group is part of the Mississippi Association of Broadcasters (led by Phil Sullivan WTVA). Professional outlets participating include (but not limited too): WHLT, WDAM -Raycom Media, MS Radio Group, MS Media Biloxi, WCBI, WTVA, and Telesouth.
The MAB professionals will discuss current issues in mass communication (with an emphasis on television news, radio entertainment, promotions, and media productions). These professionals will also discuss how to prepare for careers and obtain that all-important first job. They’ll also meet individually with students and review portfolios.
All students who are classified as juniors or seniors in any major in the School of Mass Communication and Journalism are eligible to apply. To apply, complete and return the application materials by April 5, 2013, to the School of Mass Communication and Journalism. Approximately, 20 students will be chosen for the portfolio review. All students, however, are encouraged to attend the open forum from 1:00 until 2:15.
MAB members hope to employ Mississippi graduates, so come ready to impress the professionals.
Eligibility: All students who are classified as juniors or seniors in any major in the School of Mass Communication and Journalism are eligible to apply.
Application Procedure: To participate in MAB Day, applicants should
- Complete and sign the a application form. (Click here for PDF)
- Attach your resume.
- Attach a statement that describes your career plans and your interest in participating in Hearst Day. The statement should be no more than one single-spaced page.
- List a URL below with a link to one to three samples of your work, and email that link to mary.sheffer@usm.edu. If you do not have work posted on a website, please enclose one to three samples of your work with this application.
- Return the complete application to College Hall 106 Attn: Dr. Sheffer by 5 p.m., April 5, 2013. Applicants will be notified about their acceptance by April 11, 2013.
