Southern Miss Women and the Media: #usmsteelmagnolias
This year’s symposium will acknowledge the media leadership roles played by prominent Southern Miss alumnae. The symposium will include a luncheon at which we plan to induct into the MCJ Hall of Fame four Southern Miss graduates who have had extraordinary careers: interactive journalism pioneer Rebecca Baldwin, children’s television executive Margaret Loesch, New Orleans television news anchor Sally-Ann Roberts and former USM president Martha Saunders. Tena Clark, CEO of DMI Music and inductee into the MCJ Hall of Fame in 2011, will deliver the luncheon’s keynote remarks. Proceeds from the event will benefit a scholarship endowment set up by the Mississippi Media Professionals, a descendant of the Mississippi Women’s Press Club, which was established in 1894. The endowment provides scholarships for deserving students in the School of Mass Communication and Journalism.
Additional information about the symposium and luncheon is below. If you travel to Hattiesburg for the symposium, you may want to stay for the Southern Miss-UTEP football game on Saturday, November 17, and also join us on the Centennial Green for WUSM’s Tailgate Concert Series Event.
We hope that you’ll be able to join us for the symposium. If not, please consider making a tax-deductible contribution to support the Mississippi Media Professionals Scholarship Endowment. As always, many thanks for your support of the School of Mass Communication and Journalism.
