College of Science and Technology Camp Shelby Visit

Outreach

The College of Science and Technology along with other departments spent a day at the Camp Shelby Joint Forces Training Center College and Career Festival.  The event was hosted by Camp Shelby and allowed us to engage with transitioning soldiers, veterans, civilian employees and family members.  We are able to talk to soldiers and their families about the numerous educational opportunities at Southern Miss.

Dr. Joe B. Whitehead, Jr. is a Picayune, Miss. native. 

He earned a bachelor’s degree from Delta State and a doctoral degree in physics at Kent State University while conducting research in the university’s Liquid Crystal Institute. 

He was named dean in 2010.
