MCAT Prep Course (BSC 399)

BSC 399 (MCAT Prep course) is offered during the Spring semester of each academic year. It is a two credit non-majors course originally designed to assist premedical students in becoming more competitive applicants to medical school. The Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT) is arguably the major hurdle for most premedical students due to the breadth of coverage of science knowledge, reading comprehension, verbal reasoning, and analytical skills as well as the unfamiliar timed format of the test.

BSC 399 is also appropriate for predental and other preprofessional students who would like to review Biology, Chemistry, Physics, verbal reasoning, and critical thinking skills before taking the MCAT, DAT, OAT, PCAT, or other professional admissions test during the spring or following summer.

Science content will be reviewed in fast-paced sessions. That knowledge as well as skills required for the understanding, evaluation, and application of content in written passages will be practiced by means of MCAT style essays and exam questions.

  • have a greater understanding and comprehension of basic concepts of biology, chemistry, and physics
  • have increased reading comprehension, verbal reasoning, and analytical skills
  • have written an individualized personal statement for their professional school application
