The Department of Speech and Hearing Sciences offers undergraduate degrees in speech-language pathology/audiology and education of the deaf. Students may enter as freshman, or may transfer into the program as sophomores, juniors, or seniors.
Students completing the undergraduate degree in education of the deaf are eligible for K-12 certification by the Mississippi Department of Education and Elementary and Early Childhood certification by the Council on Education of the Deaf [ C E D ].
The undergraduate program in speech-language pathology/audiology is a preprofessional curriculum. Students who are considering a career in these disciplines should realize that they must obtain a graduate degree prior to employment.

For educators of the deaf and hard of hearing and professionals in related disciplines, the department begins a new graduate program in early oral intervention in 2008. Students may enter the masters program in fall semesters, only.
Our graduate programs in both speech-language pathology and audiology are accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation [ C A A ] of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association [ A S H A ]. Students who complete the graduate program meet the educational and practicum requirements for the A S H A Certificate of Clinical Competence [ C C C ], Mississippi Licensure, and teacher certification in speech-language pathology or audiology. Our students currently attain a 92% pass rate on the A S H A national certification exam and are highly successful in obtaining employment in a variety of professional settings that include schools, rehab centers, hospitals, and private practice.
Students may enter the speech-language pathology graduate program during the summer or fall semester. Students may enter the A u . D . program or the early oral-aural intervention program for deaf and hard of hearing children only during the fall semester.
February 1st is the application deadline for all graduate programs of study in the department.
