Do I need to take the P R A X I S I exam?

Maybe.

As an undergraduate student-

Undergraduates in speech-language pathology, audiology, and education of the deaf must take two education courses, Psychology and Education of Exceptional Children [ S P E 400] and Public Education in the U.S. [ R E F 400 ]. In order to enroll in these courses you must either have:

Community college/transfer students whose A C T scores aren't sufficient to meet this requirement should take Praxis I prior to enrolling at U S M. If you wait until you arrive at U S M, you won't be able to enroll in these two courses until you meet the requirement.

U S M's Testing Center is located in Room 217 Walker Science Building. Call [601] 266-6123 for additional information about on-line testing services.

Once you have (a) completed the requirements described here, (b) fulfilled the minimum GPA requirement on the 44 hour university core, and (c) taken the B T L E [ as applicable ], you can obtain a Gold Card in Room 106 Owings-McQuagge Hall. The Gold Card indicates you have fulfilled the pre-requisites required for REF 400 and SPE 400.

As a potential public school employee-

Robin Ryder, Administrative Assistant for Education Licensure in the College of Education, informs us that PRAXIS I is required of any individual who anticipates employment in a public school setting in the state of Mississippi, regardless of prior A C T or S A T scores.
