For the Love of the Game

March 2007- While not as famous as Pennsylvania's Punxsutawney Phil, we have our own Spring ritual in S H S; the Cubs softball team.

Tocarra is a 'no-nonsense' woman when at bat.

After a long period of recuperation hibernation, our team emerged this month for the fourth straight year to take on the intramural competition. The 2007 regular playing season was very short- only four games- so Coach Teller had to move quickly to get the team in shape.

Yes, Sarah, you're a real Cub!

We caught up with our guys and gals on the intramural field on Thursday, March 29th to watch them play their final game against a team called simply "No Names." ...and we thought our team was informal.

No, Lynn. Everyone knows you can't play softball from a chair.

OK, the "No Names" won, but we had fun watching the Cubs use some mighty impressive batting and fielding maneuvers. We won't go into Dr. Kemker's fancy leap over the fence in an attempt to catch that fly ball, but you should have been there. :)

Points, we don't have. Enthusiasm, a sense of fun, and a love of the game- no one can touch our team on these fronts.

We don't pretend to understand the rules of softball, but our team somehow managed to make the playoffs next week. Take some time off from your studies. Come out and watch faculty, staff, and classmates play softball. Contact clinic secretary Laura Moody or Coach Henry Teller for scheduling information.

Go Cubs!
