09/25/08- Au.D. students and audiology faculty were treated to a special presentation on the topic of "military audiology" by Major James Davis. The meeting was especially meaningful to Ms. Berry, Dr. Oshrin, and Dr. Terrio who can recall the time when Major Davis was one of their master's level audiology students back in the 90's.
It's hard to believe that some ten years have passed since James' student days [he was Ms. Berry's graduate assistant]; he hasn't wasted the time. James has spent a considerable portion of his professional career as an officer in the U.S. Navy and, currently, as an officer in the U.S. Army.

Major James Davis, left, and Ms. Berry.
James shared his knowledge of military audiology with our students along with a mix of great personal stories from previous assignments in such places as Australia, Hawaii, Japan, and New Zealand- quite a traveling resume that, for James, began in his home state of Alabama. The session also provided our Au.D. students with some valuable internet sources for military positions in Audiology.
Major Davis is currently on temporary assignment at Camp Shelby in Hattiesburg [which is how Ms. Berry managed to "coerce" him into a visit with our students]. Beyond his regular military duties at Fort Benning, Georgia, James is in the final stages of an Au.D. program- we have no doubt that he will be successful.
Thanks so much, James, for spending time with us. Can't wait to see what the next ten years hold for you!
