Outstanding '09 Student Awards

4/3/09- We're delighted to have this chance to recognize our outstanding undergraduate and graduate students for the 2008-09 school year. It's a treat for all of us to see these hard working women acknowledged for their effort and dedication.

Kelly McNeil and her parents

Peggy Elward Revels Award- Peggy Revels Elward taught in the department of Speech and Hearing Sciences many years ago. In Ms. Elward's memory, the Revels family has provided an annual award to an outstanding undergraduate student in our department.

Kelly McNeil was selected as this year's recipient. Kelly has an excellent academic record while keeping active with a host of fundraising activities through her sorority. Kelly is focused on her career plans which, we are happy to say, includes graduate studies in the fall here at Southern Miss. Kelly is from New Orleans; she is the daughter of Robert and Connie McNeil.

Jessica Conner

Angela DeBlois

Lisa Patton

Sertoma Award- The Sertoma Club of Hattiesburg has a long history of support for the Communication Sciences, and that includes an award for an outstanding graduate student in Speech and Hearing Sciences; this year's award was split among three top students.

Jessica Conner was chosen for the award this year in speech-language pathology. Jessica is an "on the go" clinician- it's not uncommon to see her racing down the halls to meet her next appointment or meeting with one of her speech-language supervisors to plan a management session. A busy and dedicated young lady, Jessica is from Quitman, MS; her parents are Stevie and Elizabeth Conner.

Angela DeBlois was chosen among graduate students enrolled in the Early Oral Intervention program. Jessica keeps herself busy taking classes as well as completing practicum which includes her work with families of deaf and hard-of-hearing children. Angela is a native of Grenada, Ms.

Lisa Patton is pursuing her Au.D. at Southern Miss. Her roles as student, wife, and mom keep her busy, but she seems to "pull it off" in an effortless manner and, always, with a smile. Tonya and her family reside in Lumberton, MS.
