Style guides (MLA, APA, Turabian)

Style guides are used as handbooks on how to cite sources used in research papers. The format of citations depends on the style guide selected to use. Some styles will use in-text parenthetical citations while others will use footnotes or endnotes. Each style guide will have examples of Bibliography entries for most types of sources available. The style used for your research papers will depend upon the style guide used by your profession or the style preferred by your instructor.

You can access examples of APA, MLA and Turabian (Chicago) style guides online from the USM Cook Library Website (although these guides are necessarily brief and do not cover all possibilities). Published books for each of these styles are available at most book stores.
