Blackboard Information

Instructions

Blackboard account:

Blackboard is an online classroom environment used to administer online courses. Blackboard is supported by an independent server and is used by over 3,000 institutions in the US.

Once you have registered at The University of Southern Mississippi through SOAR (Southern’s On-line Accessible Records), you will need to enroll in our online software, Blackboard, which can be accessed at http://coursesites.blackboard.com.

If you have never had a Blackboard account, or you can not remember your account from a previous course, you will have to create a new account in blackboard.

Your browser:

You must have Netscape 4.7 or higher, or Internet Explorer 5.5 to access Blackboard. Your browser must have java ENABLED, cookies ENABLED and security at MEDIUM.

SouthernMiss@TheLibrarySchool - SLIS Community Site:

SouthernMiss@TheLibrarySchool is the SLIS community coursesite located inside coursesites.blackboard.com and is used to obtain information needed to access SLIS online courses, communicate with fellow students, and stay updated with important general announcements and information. This central site has the Course IDs and Access Codes necessary to enroll in your LIS courses on Blackboard. You need to enroll in the coursesite SouthernMiss@TheLibrarySchool after you create a Blackboard account.

Course IDs and Access Codes:

Course IDs are used to identify the course you wish to enroll. Access Codes are the passwords needed to get access to the course on blackboard.

To find the Course IDs and Access Codes, log into your Blackboard account and enter the SouthernMiss@TheLibrarySchool coursesite. Click on the INFORMATION button on the main menu to locate the Course IDs and Access Codes for the courses.

Courses:

You can move between the courses you have enrolled in by clicking on either My Blackboard or Courses tab at the upper left of the screen and then clicking on the course Link you want to access.

YOU MUST EXPLORE EACH COURSE TO LOCATE THE SYLLABUS, ASSIGNMENTS, CHAT PROTOCOLS, AND OTHER COURSE SPECIFIC INSTRUCTIONS. YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE COURSE SYLLABUS AND KEEPING TRACK OF THE ASSIGNMENTS. EACH COURSE IS UNIQUE. EACH INSTRUCTOR MAY HAVE DIFFERENT INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE COMPLETION OF ASSIGNMENTS, CHATS, AND CALENDARS.
