College of Health

The School of Social Work offers both the Bachelor of Social Work and Master of Social Work degrees. The MSW program started in 1974, was initially accredited in 1976, and has been continuously accredited since that time. Part-time programs began at Southern Miss' Gulf Park Campus in 1996, and in Tupelo in 1997, with cooperation from The University of Mississippi's Advanced Education Center. The BSW program achieved initial accreditation in 1996.

The school is located within the College of Health; one of five academic colleges at The University of Southern Mississippi. The College of Health includes the School of Human Performance and Recreation, Speech and Hearing Sciences, Center for Community Health, School of Nursing, Center for Nutrition and Food Systems, Medical Technology and Social Work.

The University of Southern Mississippi, Mississippi's the largest institution of higher learning in the state, was founded in 1910 as state-supported Normal College with the purpose of training teachers. It was designated a comprehensive university in 1962, and is accredited by the Southern Assocation of Colleges and Schools. The university offers 94 bachelors, 64 masters, two specialist's and 26 doctoral degrees.
