An ECOHAB cruise on the R/V Suncoaster in
November 2003. The purpose of this
cruise was to sample the Gulf of Mexico waters off the west coast of
Florida
where the red tide species Karenia brevis commonly blooms. Measurements included water sampling for
pigments,
cell enumerations, colored dissolved organic matter, and filter pad
absorption
along with in-situ optical measurements of absorption, attenuation and
backscattering. The primary goal of
this project is to study the way that the species and the other
constituents in
the water affect the light field.
