Master of Science in Child and Family Studies

About the Program

The mission of the Child and Family Studies program is to improve the well-being of individuals and families and strengthen communities through the generation and dissemination of knowledge, the education of professionals, and the provision of research-based programs.  The mission is supported by a conceptual framework based on systems theory.   Our programs teach students to apply a holistic approach to meet the needs and enhance the lives of children and their families.

Accreditation:

Accreditations by national and regional authorities validate Southern Miss’s quality and dedication to teaching excellence. Accreditation signifies that an institution has a purpose appropriate to higher education and has resources, programs and services to accomplish and sustain that purpose.

Overall, accreditation enhances educational quality throughout the nation by ensuring that institutions meet standards established by the higher education community. Southern Miss is accredited by Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, the Southern Regional Education Board, National Council for Accreditation for Teacher Education, as well as over 25 other academic program accrediting bodies.
