The Master of Music Education online degree program is an alternative to the traditional on-campus program in that it allows teachers to participate in professional development and meet the state certification and re-certification requirements with the least amount of disruption to their teaching schedule.
For this program course work is accessed fully online or in a combination of online and short residency programs hosted at a number of locations in Mississippi, the nation, and Western Europe. The curriculum is designed to be flexible and relevant to the needs of each participant. Through this program of study, teachers develop research and writing skills as well as acquire new methods and materials for the teaching environment. The degree can be completed "at a distance" except for on-campus visits for entrance exams and orientation, comprehensive exam, one and two week intensive residency courses, and weekend workshops and clinics.
The School of Music at The University of Southern Mississippi is a fully accredited member of the National Association of Schools of Music. Degree requirements are in accordance with the published regulations of this association.
