Program Summary *

The CI-TEAM program supports projects that position the national science and engineering community to engage in integrated research and education activities promoting, leveraging and utilizing cyberinfrastructure systems, tools and services. This solicitation seeks two types of project proposals, both aimed at the preparation of a diverse, cyberinfrastructure-savvy science and engineering workforce. 1) The Demonstration Project is exploratory in nature and may be somewhat limited in scope and scale. Demonstration Projects have the potential to serve as exemplars to effective larger-scale implementation activities in the future. 2) The Implementation Project is generally larger in scope or scale and draws on prior experience with the activities or the teams proposed. Implementation Projects are expected to deliver sustainable learning and workforce development activities that complement ongoing NSF investment in cyberinfrastructure.

PIRE seeks to catalyze a cultural change in U.S. institutions by establishing innovative models for international collaborative research and education. Program Summary *

The National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) Summer Stipends program provides individuals with an opportunity to pursue research in the humanities that contributes to scholarly knowledge or to the public's understanding of the humanities. Summer stipends awarded by the NEH provide $6,000 for two consecutive and uninterrupted months of full-time independent study and research.

The Office of the Provost at Southern Miss will supplement the $6,000 NEH stipend based on the recipient's summer teaching salary by academic rank. For example, if an assistant professor is a recipient of a NEH Summer Stipends Award and the equivalent summer teaching salary for the position is $9,713 (full load), the Provost will provide a $3,713 supplement to augment the NEH award.

An institution may nominate a maximum of TWO humanities faculty for the Summer Stipends competition. An evaluation committee will be formed at Southern Miss to review and screen applications, based on NEH Selection criteria. The committee will forward its recommendations for nominations to the Provost.

Faculty members who want to be placed in nomination should submit an internal (university) application package to Syd Conner at Sponsored Programs Administration (SPA) by 5 p.m. Tuesday, September 4, 2007.

The internal application package consists of the following elements of the NEH application:
• a cover page (project title, name, academic rank, date),
• a two-page CV in outline form,
• a description of the proposed study, of not more than three pages single spaced or six pages double spaced, and
• a one page bibliography.

Faculty must also submit an Internal Approval Form to Howard Fromkin at SPA.
