How to Make an Appointment

To make an appointment, call the Student Counseling Services desk at 601-266-4829. Or, feel free to stop by the Student Counseling Services office located at 200 Kennard-Washington Hall during business hours.

What to expect when you make an appointment:

First, our staff will schedule you for an initial 30-45 minute intake appointment. During this intake appointment, a counselor will gather data about the nature of your concern, screen for important mental health symptoms, and discuss your goals for counseling. At that point, you will be assigned to a counselor for future sessions. Your intake counselor may also direct you to informational resources or offer some brief suggestions that many students find helpful with your area of concern.

Plan to arrive 20 minutes early to your intake appointment. This will allow you ample time to fill out our intake paperwork. Due to time constraints, if you arrive more than 10 minutes late, you will be asked to reschedule.

Subsequent counseling sessions with your permanent counselor are typically focused on your specific problem area and goals for counseling.

Please note that our intake counselor will make every effort to match your specific concern to a counselor with expertise in that area. We strive to match clients with counselors who will be a good fit in terms of interpersonal style. Students may request to switch counselors if they feel that they are not developing a sufficient working relationship with their assigned counselor.
