Lasts

Although I will not be graduating until next May this week has some lasts for me. This is the last full week of "real" (lecture and take notes) classes, because next week is Thanksgiving and the following week I have several early finals. I am feeling excited, glad and a bit nostalgic. There have been several classes I have really enjoyed this year.

Also this weekend I will attend my last home football game as a student. The next home game I will be attending I will attend as an alum!  Very scary!

It all makes sense now!

As I am in my senior year, I am starting to really enjoy my classes. One aspect that I enjoy is that fact that all of the classes I am taking are in my major, and I am able to learn things that I am interested in and ultimately want to do for a living.  This fact makes the topics in my classes much more interesting. Anther thing that I enjoy about school this year is that I am actually seeing how all the different types of classes that I am taking relate to each other. Three of my classes, Operations Management (MGT 325), Marketing Research (MKT 424) and Sales Managements (MKT 426) are all having similar topics that relate to each other.  It is so nice to see that what I am learning can relate to other areas of study and can be used in the real world.

Two weeks of freedom!

For the next two weeks, I will be FREE!!! Free from tests, quizzes, projects, etc! I am very excited, because for the past few weeks I have had multiple tests on several days of the week. As you have read from my previous post, I felt like I was living in the library!  Now I am free.

Here are a few of my plans for my next two weeks of freedom:
1. Re-read New Moon from the Twilight series in preparation of the movie release
2. Hang out with my friends, catch up on life and enjoy not having a nagging conscience telling me I should be working on school work.
3. Enjoy being a college senior!

I hope that my next two weeks are completely relaxing and enjoyable, which will allow me to start the holiday season and finals season relaxed.

National Consultant

This week is a very busy week for my sorority. Our national consultant is in town for the week. It is not because our chapter is in trouble and needs to be checked on. Actually, every chapter has a CDC visit them at least once a year. The reason is because CDCs are trained to make sure that chapters are doing everything the way they are supposed to.  They also visit to make suggestions to help chapters constantly improve. I am a vice president in my sorority; therefore, I get to meet with her one-on-one, which I'm excited about.  It will be great to get her suggestions and hear how other chapters may handle similar issues.

Our CDC this year is from Boston, and this is her first time in Mississippi. I am going to take her to dinner one night this week, and I plan to take her to a place that is very unique to Mississippi depending on her food preference. Will it be sushi, po-boys, grits or just a big greasy hamburger? We will see.

I am now beginning to understand some of the responsibilities of being a senior in college. A few years ago, Homecoming week was made up of attending date parties, hanging out with friends while stuffing floats, and simply enjoying life as a Southern Miss student. That is not how my senior year Homecoming week is being celebrated.

This year I am showing my support of Southern Miss from the library. I spent the entire 12 hours I was awake yesterday in the glorious Cook library on the fifth floor in the third cubical to the end. Although my Homecoming week this year is consumed with tests and papers, I am not too bitter.  Rather, I'm thankful that the library provides a quiet study space and a Starbucks open until midnight to keep me energized and awake. Also, on Friday after my last test, I will enjoy a relaxing and exciting weekend with my alumni friends from out of town and a great football game. All the while, I will have the accomplished feeling of having all my tough school work behind me.  However until Friday, I will be in the library celebrating from my cubicle.
