EAGLEPALOOZA!

Eaglepalooza is this Friday!  It will be held in downtown Hattiesburg on the corner of West Pine and Main Street, and it'll begin at 6 p.m.  The first act with be the Foulon Brothers, which is a band made up of two brothers that usually play cover songs. The next acts will be Smaash at 7:15 and Grupo Fantasma at 8:15 p.m. The headliner is Girl Talk, who will go on stage at around 10 p.m.  I've talked about Girl Talk in previous blogs, but I guess it doesn't hurt to repeat myself.  Gregg Gillis is the man behind the stage name "Girl Talk," and he puts on a great show. I've seen him a couple times, and I've yet to be disappointed.. He mashes songs together to form one massive play list of music that really gets you to dancing. I'm so excited! A lot of people are coming to Hattiesburg to see him, so I hope it is a great show! Everyone come out and have some fun!

My life lately

My stressful week and a half is finally over, and I'm extremely relieved. It was all worth it when we won Songfest! Yay! It was a lot of fun, and all of the organizations did really well.  I also had two tests this week, and I think I did well on both (I hope so anyways!).  My stress isn't completely over yet, though.  Southern Style tryouts have begun, and it is a little nerve-racking. It is still fun to do, because I get to interact with other students I haven't met before.  Today is the second round of the tryouts, so wish me luck!

I'm going home on Sunday for my dad's birthday, and I'm really excited because I haven't seen my parents in a while. I think I've missed being home, because I currently don't have a roommate.  My roommate was offered a space in her sorority's house, and she didn't want to turn it down because she may not have gotten another chance to live there.  I'm all alone in my little room now, but it's okay because I've been so busy lately that I've hardly been in the room unless I'm sleeping.

I can't wait for next weekend...EAGLEPALOOZA! I know I have already talked about this in a previous entry, but I am just super excited that I get to see Girl Talk again.  It'll be so much fun to experience him here in Hattiesburg with all of my friends.  Also, the next day will be our last home game which is sad.  I'm happy though, because I feel like I haven't been to a football game in forever! We are playing Tulsa, and we are going to win! SMTTT!

Busy Busy!

Tests. Tests. More Tests. That is my life for the next couple of weeks. I've been pretty busy with school, and the up and coming Chi Omega Songfest has added to my list of things to do.

Songfest is Chi Omega's philanthropic event that benefits the Make A Wish Foundation.  Student organizations sing holiday songs, usually with altered lyrics, to compete for overall champion title. It has been fun practicing but also very time consuming.  I'm really excited, and I hope Delta Gamma takes home the title!  It is next Tuesday, November 10th in the Coliseum.  I hope everyone comes out and supports all the participants!

Anyway, back to tests.  I have a paper on Hamlet due tomorrow, a Spanish test Monday, a History presentation Tuesday and a Political Science test on Wednesday...AHHH! Oh well, I can handle it. This week has also been Sisterhood Week for Delta Gamma, because our Initiation is this weekend. I'm so so excited to spend this weekend with all of my friends!

My life this week

Well it's flu season, and it seems like everyone is getting sick. I am just now getting over being sick, but I did not have the flu, which was very fortunate.  I'm very glad I'm finally getting better, because I have so much work that I should be doing. Also, Halloween is coming up so I need to be better!

I love Halloween, mostly because I love candy and not because I like scary stuff.  I despise scary movies.  When I see scary movies, I have to close my eyes and cover my ears.  It's weird how October is almost over, which means this semester is getting closer to the end. I'm kind of sad that it went by so fast, but I am so ready for Christmas break.  I love being with my family during the holidays and eating good food!  Also, spring semester will begin, and I'll be able to have a fresh start.  I'll have new classes, new teachers and a completely different schedule.

Speaking of new things, I have never had to speak in front of a bunch of people before, but tonight I will be speaking at a scholarship reception on the Coast about the Honors College at Southern Miss.  I'm a little nervous, but I know it'll be a great learning experience for me.  I hope it goes well!

It Never Gets Old!

HOMECOMING! Yes, it is Homecoming, and it has been hectic. I've had a lot of fun, but I've been extremely busy with trying to get my sorority's float finished.

For homecoming, different organizations are divided into teams. There are several competitions throughout the week, and all of the points are tallied at the end to determine a winner. One of the most strenuous competitions is the float contest.  Each organization decorates a float, which is a square structure covered in chicken wire.  The point is to make a huge picture that corresponds with the theme of homecoming, which is "Black and Gold Never Gets Old."  You make the picture by stuffing tiny pieces of colored tissue paper into the wire, so it definitely takes a while.

Another competition is the fountain sit, where a person from each of the teams sits in the fountain in freezing water for as long as they can. Tonight is the Hop Contest in front of the Hub, and it is going to be a lot of fun. Also, Saturday is the game against Tulane, and my friend Kaitlyn Mount is going to be on the field at halftime representing the sophomores at Southern Miss as our homecoming maid! I hope everyone comes out and cheers on the Homecoming Court!
