October 2009 Archives
This past week was kind of difficult. I had two tests and a huge project due all in the same week. That didn't leave much room for any fun activities. Now that all of those things are finished, I can start having fun again, which starts tonight.
This afternoon there will be a fun event going on for children called "Trick-or-Treat on Greek Street." This event allows local kids to go trick-or-treating throughout our sorority village. There will be fun games for them to play and, of course, candy and fun treats for them to take.
After that, my sorority will be hosting a social event called "Owl-o-ween." I'm looking forward to seeing all the different costumes that everyone will wear. Then, tomorrow morning I am going to the breast cancer walk happening on campus.
Once this is over, I am going home to visit the family in Long Beach. My family gets really into the holidays, especially Halloween, so it will be really funny to see all of the cool stuff that my dad has set up. I still haven't figured out what I'm going to dress up as for Halloween, but I'm sure something will come to me and probably at the last minute.
For Sunday, as of now, I think I will spend it as my day of rest.
Last week was jam-packed, but it ended up being so much fun! Because this past week was Homecoming week, I got to dress up for a several different events. The first event that I got to dress up for was the relay race. Now I realize that I looked pretty ridiculous, but it was still so much fun.

The next event I got to dress up for was for the Mr. and Mrs. Varsity Pageant. For this event, each team is supposed to pick a theme, and then all members of that time are to dress according to that theme. This year my sorority decided to dress like hippies, and our participants in the pageant dressed as Sonny and Cher. It was so much fun, because we all got to tie dye shirts.

Then, after the Mr. and Mrs. Varsity Pageant, we had a Hop Contest and Friday Night at the Fountain. This time at Friday Night at the Fountain, they announced who was going to be playing at Eaglepalooza, I'm really excited because this year Girl Talk is going to be coming.

After all of this, I still had a football game left to go to, which Southern Miss won! Also, at the game the winning teams of Homecoming week were announced. My team won first place overall from the weeks' events, and we won 2nd place for our Homecoming float! All in all, it was a really fun and busy week!
This past weekend was so much fun. Friday, I was able to take a road trip with some friends, and it was a lot of fun just hanging out in the car. Then, Saturday was Black and Gold Day. At Black and Gold Day, I was able to meet several students who are interested in coming to Southern Miss next year. I could not think of a better way to end Black and Gold Day than our win against Memphis! The final score was 36-16.
Now what's really exciting for me is that this week is our Homecoming Week. This is the week that student organizations all over campus compete to see who can create the best Homecoming float! My favorite thing about Homecoming Week is the different festivities that go on throughout the whole week. This week there will be various events, such as the fountain sit, the Mr. and Mrs. Varsity pageant, a relay race, the homecoming parade and many more. At the end of Homecoming week, we get to have another home football game and another pep rally! I'm hoping that our football team beats Tulane this weekend for the perfect conclusion to a great Homecoming.
I always love having random holidays where school gets cancelled. Even if I don't have anything specific to do during the holiday, I still love not having to worry about going to class or doing homework. This week we are having one of those beautiful holidays, Fall Break. This Fall Break we are actually off for Thursday and Friday, which means I get to have an early start on my weekend. I am not going to be doing anything too extravagant, just mostly spending time with my friends and family.
This Friday is actually one of my best friend's birthdays, so I was going to go spend some time in Clinton. Then, I will go back to Long Beach to meet up with my family. Since we don't have class tomorrow, we are going to go to The State Fair tonight (as long as the weather holds up). Then after Friday, I am going to go spend time at my grandparents' house with my family. At my grandparents we usually wind up doing things like riding four wheelers and just having fun outside. So, all in all, I think it will end up being a really fun holiday break.
Yay, the weekend is finally here!!! I feel like it has taken forever for this weekend to arrive. I don't even have that much going on, but I am still so excited about it. I'm actually just going home, back to Long Beach, and I'll probably just wind up being lazy for the entire weekend. I'm pretty spoiled when I go home, so maybe my mom will end up babying me when I get there. I realize that is pretty ridiculous to say, seeing how I am a junior in college!!!
I am the secretary, for Eagle Connection, the student recruitment team at Southern Miss. Something that is coming up soon, is Black and Gold Day. I have started planning the campus tours with the other officers...I'm so pumped up! Black and Gold Day is a day where potential students interested in attending Southern Miss can come and get a tour of the campus and the residence halls. It's our big fall visit day for seniors in high school. What's so great about Black and Gold Day? You not only get a tour of the campus and meet Southern Miss professors, but you also get to attend one of our home football games. This year, it is the Southern Miss vs. Memphis game. Black and Gold Day is going to be on Saturday, October 17, and will start at 1:00 p.m. If you are interested in coming to school at Southern Miss, I think you should come to Black and Gold Day and see a little bit of what campus life is like. Here is a link where you can sign up for it, https://www4.usm.edu/admissions/blackandgoldday/. Here's a picture of the whole Eagle Connection crew for this year.
