Eaglepalooza!

Since our last football game is this weekend, we only have one pep rally left. Our last pep rally is going to be included in Eaglepalooza. This will be like Friday Night at the Fountain but on a much larger scale. This is when we move the pep rally from the campus to Downtown Hattiesburg and block off all the streets. We always have big performances!

In past years, artists like Gavin Degraw, Dashboard Confessional, Eve and Mya have performed. This year we're featuring a local band called SMAASH and the nationally known dj named GirlTalk. Eaglepalooza is always so much fun. I will get to hang out with my friends and get ready for our final home game. This will be a great way to get everyone pumped up for our home last game against Tulsa. Southern Miss is looking really good in the Conference USA rankings. Hopefully we can pull off our last couple games and get to go to a bowl game!

Eagle Alert

Everyone by now should know about the tropical storm in the Gulf Coast. Southern Miss always stays on top of emergencies. They are sure to let everyone know when there is something going on. We recently got an emergency notification system called Eagle Alert. Whenever there is an emergency on campus or in the area, students can be notified of the situation immediately. If students sign up for it, they can receive notification through email, phone, or even text message. Updates are always on the front of our USM website. This is just one more way that Southern Miss keeps the students up to date.

Southern Style

I had the privilege of being a part of one of the most prestigious organizations on campus this past year, Southern Style. Southern Style members are the official hosts and hostesses of campus. We work all the new student orientations during the summer, and through that we get to know all of the incoming students. We also participate in graduation, Founder's Day and anything other event the university needs us for. Being a member of the Southern Style team is a great opportunity, and something I will never forget. I have made so many new friends and have memories I will never forget.

Well my year on Southern Style is drawing to an end, and its now time to pick new members. Applications are due this week, and interviews are next week. It's going to be a really busy time for some. Because there are 3 rounds of interviews, next week will be quite busy. It's going to be tough, but I can't wait to see who all wants to be a part of Southern Style!

Time Flies

This semester is almost over! It seems like just a few weeks ago that we were going through welcome week.  We've already passed the mid point of the semester. I have two tests this week, so I'll definitely be taking advantage of our library! This is really the time for me to utilize my time management skills. With everything going on with my classes, work and extracurricular activities, it's important for me to have great time management. Academics should always be the most important; therefore, I need to find time to balance everything I am responsible for.  It's going to be a tough week, but thankfully I've really learned how to manage my time over the past 3 years. Wish me luck!

Homecoming Week!

This week is going to be really busy around Southern Miss. Today kicked off Homecoming week. This week is full of activities that several organizations are participating in. I personally can't wait for the fountain sit. This is a competition where people sit in the fountain, and whoever stays in the longest is the winner. It's pretty cold out there, so I wonder what organizations are actually going to participate. Also this week, everyone will be out around the Administration Building stuffing their floats for the parade on Saturday.

People are already excited for the football game. We won against Memphis this past Saturday. Hopefully, we can finish off Homecoming week with a win against Tulane! There's so much in store for the week. It's going to be really exciting!
