Moving Out...

Because I was on Southern Style, I got to live in Bolton Hall with the rest of the team during the summer. We did so much together. Whether it was eating, taking trips or preparing for previews, we were always together. Moving out is now a little sad, because the summer semester is 2 days from being over.  There won't be anymore hanging out in the hall, late night talks or sonic trips.  It's so sad that I won't be able to walk across the hall to some of my closest friends. One of the best things about living in a residence hall is the bond that you create with the people that are on the same floor as you. Residence halls give you a chance to create some great relationships with people. We've had some great times together this summer, and I'm really going to miss my teammates. Sometimes, I wish the summer would never end!

Big Decisions

Because I am now a senior, it is time that I start thinking about what I plan to do after I graduate. Should I get a job immediately or wait? Should I go to graduate school or not? I've been thinking about it over the past week and decided that it was best if I go to grad school. I love computer science, and I would love to share my knowledge of it with other students. I've always wanted to be a teacher, so I think I want to go into that.  I also looked around to try and find out how I could possibly get certified to teach. I checked out various colleges and guess what school has a great program? Southern Miss! I found out that I could get my master's degree and be certified to teach in one year once I've graduated with my bachelor's degree! Grad school has always been a possibility for me, and now that I have the chance to get my master's degree at Southern Miss, I am really excited!  I get to spend an extra year here! SMTTT!!!

Every year Southern Style always comes up with a list of things that a student should do while at Southern Miss. Some of these things are a little crazy, but others are quite helpful. We just want new students to get the full Southern Miss experience. I'll name a few of them for you:

1. Get involved - The best way to fall in love with Southern Miss is to get involved with some organizations. SGA, SMAC, Eagle Connection and of course Southern Style are great ways to do that. They allow you to meet many new people and create a bond with some people that you will never forget. We have so many student organizations here so you can always find something to be apart of; however, if you don't think you can find something you can always create your own, as long as you have 9 other friends.

2. Check out Greek Life - I can personally say that I have found a sisterhood with a group of young women that I would have never known otherwise. Being apart of Greek Life is a great way to get to know the people on this campus and develop some life long friends.

3. Visit downtown Hattiesburg - So many people only to going to the mall and to many of the chain restaurants that are on Hardy street. However, downtown Hattiesburg has a lot to offer, including great shopping and great food.

4. Take a road trip to an away game - It is great to just get away sometimes to see other cities. Take a trip with some friends to an away football game. You'll be surprised at how much fun you will have!

5. Get in the fountain - Get a group of friends together and go play in the fountain! It's so much fun. Be sure to take a lot of pictures!

These are just a few of the things you should do while at Southern Miss. These things will let you make the most out of your college life!

The Hub City

I think that Southern Miss is a big time college with a small town feel.  In Hattiesburg, you can always find something to do; however, if you're ever looking for something more, it's not a long drive away from other fun cities.  Hattiesburg is called the "Hub City" because it is in the center of many other cities. Hattiesburg is a short drive from the Gulf Coast, Jackson, Mobile, Meridian, and New Orleans. Event the beach is only an hour and a half away! If I'm ever bored, group of friends and I could always take a quick trip somewhere to hang out. Recently, a group of my Southern Style friends went to New Orleans, and it didn't take long at all to get there. We hung out and had a great time.  This weekend we're going to Orange Beach in Alabama. It will only be a two and half hour drive. We're going to hang out all day on the beach. I can't wait for it!  To me, it's so great and convenient to be only a short distance away from so many places!

Summer's winding down...

It is the beginning of July, which means the summer semester is half way over. With me working in the admissions office and working on Southern Style, this summer has flown by.  The campus has been pretty quiet this summer as there hasn't been too much going on.

I can't wait for August to come.  The campus will be alive again, and everything will start getting busier once Welcome Week rolls around.  All our incoming new students are invited to participate in a week full of activities to get acquainted with our campus and learn our traditions.  My favorite moment of the week will be when the new freshman class will get to put a fresh coat of gold paint on the Eagle Walk. Paint will be everywhere! It's going to be so much fun!

After that week, classes will begin, and everyone will be out, going to class and hanging out in The Hub and in Seymours. I will get to see so many people. Seymours, one of our on-campus eateries is getting a makeover this summer. In the fall, we will have a Chick-fila and a Subway in there. I'm sure I will be spending a lot of time there!

Then, of course, there's football season! Coach Fedora proved a lot to the fans last season, and I hope he can do it again.  From the looks of our schedule, we are sure to have some exciting and tough games! I'll be there cheering our football team on!

I can't wait for the fall to come! I'll be so excited to see the campus come alive again!
