Homecoming

We are less than a month away from Homecoming week! Current students and alumni are definitely ready for this week to come! Various organizations have already begun preparing for what they want to do during the week. Also, Homecoming Court elections take place tomorrow! Campus is full of signs and pictures of all the candidates.  I'm actually running for senior maid so my signs are everywhere too! I'm kind of nervous, because this is my first time running for a position like this. I really hope everything turns out well!

My sorority sisters and friends in fraternities are also preparing for this big week.  Homecoming week is also NPHC Week (National Pan-Hellenic Council). The historically African-American fraternities and sororities are having a week full of community service, programs and other fun events. The week will end with a big step show on Friday, Oct. 23rd. Each of the organizations will get to show off some cool steps and dance moves! I can't wait for Homecoming week! It's going to be really fun!

Busy, busy, busy!

I can definitely say that things are starting to get quite busy around Southern Miss.  We're a month into school which means tests are coming up and those big papers are due soon. People are taking advantage of our library which offers a lot to our students. If you need help with a presentation or a quiet room to study, our library has it.  It also has a computer lab that stays open until 2 am for those who need the extra time to finish up papers and assignments!

Also, Southern Miss football is still alive! On a hot Saturday afternoon, we came back to beat Virginia. It was a fantastic game, full of energy and excitement. Our football team is made up of a bunch of fighters! They never gave up and proved that we are one of the best teams in the nation!

Everyone is also getting prepared for Homecoming which is a little over a month away. Everyone is busy planning the events for the week, and Homecoming Court elections will be held soon! There are so many people running for the positions. It's going to be very interesting.

With all this going on at Southern Miss, it makes me so proud to be a student here. There is never a dull moment! SMTTT!!!!!!

Game day at The Rock!

It looks like it's going to be an exciting year for Southern Miss football! We have won our first two games. Both games have been quite interesting! I love the game day atmosphere at Southern Miss. From tailgating in the District to cheering in the student section of The Rock, game days are so much fun! I love sitting in the student section for games. The student section keeps the team pumped up and the stadium full of energy. However, this week's game is going to be tough. Our football team has the opportunity to prove themselves to the nation. We'll be taking on Virginia at home! I can't wait for this game. I know our football team will be ready. This Saturday at The Rock is going to be great!

Know Your Resources!

As a senior, it's important for me to get everything I can that is going to help me in the real world. Southern Miss offers several resources that can help you in many ways as a student. Here are my top picks:

1) Career Services: This is a great resource for me! As a senior, I need my resume to be in great shape to give to potential employers, and Career Services can help with resume building. They can also help with finding internships or even jobs.  In addition, they can assist you with finding an on campus job if needed during your college career.

2) Health Services: I can't miss too many classes now, because I don't want to fall behind. Therefore, if I am ever sick, we have a clinic with a full staff and pharmacy right here on campus!  Also, if I ever need to get any shots or just need a check up, I can go there.

3) Payne Center: Staying in top shape is important to me.  The Payne Center is our on campus work out facility. It offers everything I could possibly think of!  The Payne Center has an indoor swimming pool, indoor and outdoor tracks, racquetball and basketball courts, workout machines and free weights.  They also have personal trainers available. In addition, the Payne Center houses our Recreational Sports Department. We have the second largest Intramural Sports program in the nation!

Southern Miss has so much to offer its students, and these are just a few of my favorites!
