This week is going to be really busy around Southern Miss. Today kicked off Homecoming week. This week is full of activities that several organizations are participating in. I personally can't wait for the fountain sit. This is a competition where people sit in the fountain, and whoever stays in the longest is the winner. It's pretty cold out there, so I wonder what organizations are actually going to participate. Also this week, everyone will be out around the Administration Building stuffing their floats for the parade on Saturday.
People are already excited for the football game. We won against Memphis this past Saturday. Hopefully, we can finish off Homecoming week with a win against Tulane! There's so much in store for the week. It's going to be really exciting!
This weekend campus will be full of visitors. The Office of Admissions and Eagle Connection, our student recruiting team, will be hosting Black and Gold Day! This is when high school seniors come visit our campus. They have the opportunity to receive information about our school, go on a campus tour, and then go to a Southern Miss Football game against Memphis. This game is also our Black Out game. Usually people wear gold to the game, but this time we all wear black. It's a cool change up! All the prospective students will get a feeling of what a Southern Miss football game is all about! I'm a member of Eagle Connection, so I will be helping with this event, and I'm ready to show these perspective students that Southern Miss is the best place to be! SMTTT!
At Southern Miss, it's great that we get a few breaks throughout the year. At the end of this week we have fall break, which means on Thursday and Friday, we don't have class! I'm going to use this time wisely to relax and catch up on some much needed sleep! Getting a break during the middle of the semester is such a good idea. It gives us the chance become refreshed and reenergized to finish off the rest of the semester. I definitely need this time to recharge!
Then, in the spring semester, we get another break that a lot of other colleges don't have. In February, we get two days off for Mardi Gras! Since our university is so close to the Gulf Coast and New Orleans, we take time off to celebrate Mardi Gras as well. This is just another great reason why I love Southern Miss!
