Sydney, Australia, with 3.5 million inhabitants, is the largest city in Australia. Situated around a magnificent natural harbor, Sydney is famous for its Harbour Bridge and distinctive opera house. Its climate is subtropical, with mild winters and hot summers. Beaches and parks abound in the area, creating an exciting backdrop for many outdoor recreational activities.
Macquarie University, the third university established in Sydney's metropolitan area, was founded in 1964. Located on an attractively landscaped campus that features a large modern sculpture park, the university is about 11 miles northwest of the city's center. Orientation takes place two weeks before the term begins. Students choose courses in business, sciences, liberal arts, social sciences, social work, education, humanities, media/communication studies, and health sciences and typically earn between 12-15 credit hours per semester.
