What's it all about?

What is Study Abroad?

One thing is for sure: it is NOT a vacation! While it might look like a bunch of fun (it is), research also shows that the different learning environment studying abroad puts students and faculty in contributes to the overwhelming success of students and faculty who participate.

Who studies abroad?

Hundreds of USM students study abroad every year, but so do hundreds of students from universities around the nation, on Southern Miss programs. Students in good academic standing, with above a 2.0 GPA (a higher GPA is required for a few international exchange programs) can study abroad. Underclassmen, Graduate students, everyone who is eligible can study abroad if they want to!

Why should you study abroad?

Our students come back to say that studying abroad, regardless of the length of their program, was the best time of their lives. They say it helped them appreciate not only the country or countries they traveled to, but it helped them find a new appreciation for home, too. They also say it helped them focus their academic and career goals – and having “study abroad” on your résumé can certainly set you apart from other candidates.

What can I study?

No matter what your major is, we can help you find a program most suitable to your academic and personal interests. Students can earn their major credits, or even satisfy elective and core curriculum requirements abroad.

When can I study abroad?

Depending on your goals and classification, you can study abroad at any time during your undergraduate and/or graduate program. We offer programs during the fall, spring and summer semesters, and also during the winter and spring breaks!

I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference."
