Welcome to the USM Summer Math Institute Website!

The purpose of The University of Southern Mississippi Math Institute is to improve the achievement of students in grades six through eight in the area of Mathematics by accomplishing the following goals:

a.    To improve the leadership skills of building-level administrators in facilitating math instruction, comprehension, and student achievement;

b.       To integrate mathematics topics directly related to content standards into daily instruction;

c.       To integrate and utilize technology into daily instruction (for example, graphing calculators and computer technology to access web-based resources and foster the learning concepts of mathematics);

d.       To be able to interpret appropriate data;

e.       To be able to develop and implement action plans addressing math content areas.

The Summer Institute consists of twenty 3.5 hour sessions held during the summer with two 3.5 hour follow-up sessions held during the fall.

Participants are middle school math teachers and administrators.
