I am delighted to learn of your interest in the dance program at The University of Southern Mississippi. The dance major program at Southern Miss is considered highly competitive with other comparable dance degree-granting institutions, and it is an accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Dance.
The University of Southern Mississippi offers the Bachelor of Fine Arts degree emphasizing either dance Performance and Choreography and in Dance Education. The dance education program closely parallels the goals and required proficiencies of the performance and choreography emphasis area. Both provide a well-balanced and active curriculum.
Auditions are required for entry into the degree program. For the 2009-2010 academic year auditions will be held on Saturday February 28th, and Saturday, April 18th, 2009. For information on the audition process as well as scholarships, please refer to our Audition Questions and Answers. It is important that we receive the audition form and applicable paperwork at least one week prior to your audition.
Also, the department twice a year hosts a High School Dance Day. The next HSDD is on October 31st, 2008. This is an excellent opportunity for prospective Southern Miss dance majors to take classes with the faculty, visit with current majors, and see a dance concert for which you will receive a complimentary ticket.
Also on this page you will find materials that should answer many of your questions about the program. If you do have questions, please do not hesitate to e-mail or call. We would be happy to show you our facilities and introduce you to the faculty and students.
Thank you again for your interest in The University of Southern Mississippi, and we will look forward to hearing from you soon.
Sincerely,
Stacy Reischman
