Robin Carr is a Certified Lessac Kinesensic Voice and Body Trainer and Associate Professor of Voice and Acting at the University of Southern Mississippi. She is currently President-Elect for the International Lessac Training and Research Institute. As one of only fifty-three Lessac Certified Trainers in the world, Robin was fortunate enough to teach a one week workshop with Arthur Lessac himself at the University of Rijeka in Croatia. Carr then returned to Croatia where she taught the Lessac curriculum for their new Post Masters' Program in Acting, Media and Culture Studies under the direction of the international film actor, Rade Šerbedžija. Robin has most recently taught the Lessac Kinesensic Training at Carnegie Mellon University's School of Theatre; The Gaeity School for Acting, The National School of Theatre in Ireland in Dublin; The National Institute of Dramatic Art in Sydney, Australia; and with the Theatre Actors Guild in Manila, Philippines. Robin has been the Chair of the Voice and Speech Committee for the Southeastern Theatre Conference and is a member of the Voice and Speech Trainer's Association. She is the recipient of a Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival National Grant, the Mississippi Alliance for Arts Education Excellence in Higher Education award and a Southern Miss Innovation Award for Creative Activities.
While at Southern Miss, Robin has directed such shows as Rent, Assassins, Talley's Folly, Smokey Joe's Café, Ragtime, Almost Maine, Urinetown The Musical, Voice of the Prairie, and Little Shop of Horrors. Ms. Carr has served on the American College Theatre Festival (KCACTF) regional selection team and has won three excellence in directing awards. She has been the dialect coach for various productions such as Dancing at Lughnasa, Hitchock Blonde, Waiting for the Parade and Candida at Southern Miss and Our Country's Good for the University of New Orleans. A member of Actors' Equity Association, Robin has performed such roles as Ma Joad in The Grapes of Wrath, Fefu in Fefu and Her Friends, and Mrs. Lovett in Sweeney Todd. She holds an M.F.A from the University of Connecticut and a Shakespeare Acting Certificate from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts. Ms. Carr is also the director and creator of Midsummer Musical Theatre Experience, a musical theatre youth camp held on the campus of Southern Miss.
