About the Department

MISSION: We seek to provide the best possible education in theatre and dance for our students, preparing them for careers in the professional and educational arenas. We emphasize the power of the imagination, passion, discipline and collaboration in the creation of art. We seek to provide the best possible, and most creative, work environment for our students, faculty and staff, while offering the strongest possible support for the specific missions of the Theatre and Dance programs.

The University of Southern Mississippi Department of Theatre and Dance is an accredited member of the National Association of Schools of Theatre and the National Association of Schools of Dance. Theatre and Dance requirements are in accordance with the published regulations of these associations.

The department offers undergraduate major and minor degree programs in both theatre and dance and graduate programs in theatre. The programs provide the student with sound theory and intensive practical training as well as opportunities for extensive performance experiences and exposure to visiting professional artists.

The Theatre and Dance Building houses the academic offices of the Department of Theatre and Dance and provides rehearsal and performance space for students involved in departmental presentations and projects.
