Professor Janet Prieur received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the Juilliard School in New York City and her Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. She has studied with many prominent dance professionals including Antony Tudor, Alfredo Corvino, Margaret Black, Jose Limon, Betty Jones, Lucas Hoving, Mary Hinkson, Helen McGeehee, Bertram Ross, Anna Sokolow, and others. She has performed professionally in a variety of venues - on the concert stage, Broadway, National Broadway touring companies, CBS and PBS television programs, industrials, dinner theatres, and in summer stock shows. In addition, she has choreographed nearly 40 original works for the concert stage.
Professor Prieur holds a certificate in Labanotation by the Dance Notation Bureau, Center for Movement Research and Analysis, based in New York City. As a dance specialist, she has served as a peer-review panelist with the Mississippi Arts Commission and the Louisiana Division of the Arts.
Ms. Prieur has appeared as a guest performing artist and master teacher nationally. Her professional training background of ballet, modern dance (with expertise in the styles of Martha Graham and Jose Limon) and ideokinetics are reflected in her choreography and classes. Her current interest of study is researching the relationship between music and choreography.
