The Trombone Studio is currently under the instruction of Dr. Bruce Tychinski. Dr. Tychinski joined the faculty of Southern Miss in Fall 2005 and teaches applied trombone lessons, courses in literature and pedagogy, and directs the Southern Miss Trombone Choir. From 1981 to 2005, the studio was led by Dr. Marta Jean Hofacre, who also has served as an officer for the International Trombone Association. Under her guidance, the studio gained a national reputation and a long line of guest artists came to campus. Trombone students also captured prizes in concerto competitions and many went onto successful careers in music. Prior to this, the studio was led by Professor Raoul Jerome, who also taught Jazz Studies. Mr. Jerome is still active in the Hattiesburg area and has collaborated on numerous occasions with the Jazz Lab bands and Hattiesburg Civic Light Opera. |

In the past year, trombone students have performed at numerous local churches (some as regular performing members), and with the Meridian Symphony, Meistersingers, Southern Mississippi Symphony, Hattiesburg Civic Light Opera, Mardi Gras dixieland bands, the Jazz Sextet, Eastern Shore Choral Society, and many others.
