The Southern Miss Trombone Choir is comprised of 16-25 undergraduate and graduate student trombonists performing on alto, tenor and bass trombones. All music majors enrolled in applied lessons are required to participate in Trombone Choir, but students of any major can audition for the group. The choir performs a variety of literature from many time periods and genres and can be heard regularly at campus concerts, the annual All-South Honor Band Festival, and at churches and schools in the region. Concerts by the ensemble often include arrangements by students, student conductors, and student and guest soloists. This ensemble can be taken for credit.

Hub Bones is the trombone studio's jazz-based trombone ensemble. Using five to ten trombones and a rhythm section, the group performs a mixture of original compositions and jazz standards and affords all members of the group the opportunity to participate in jazz improvisation. Membership in the group is selected by Dr. Tychinski and Mr. Larry Panella, Director of Jazz Studies. This ensemble can be taken for credit.

The Southern Miss Sackbut Consort is an ensemble for students who would like to learn about the history of the trombone and perform on replicas of 16th century instruments. The University of Southern Mississippi owns five sackbuts (an alto, 3 tenors, and a bass) and performs literature written for trombone ensembles or mixed with other instruments. The Sackbut Consort can be heard a few times per year on campus and is also used at programs in schools to show the development of the trombone. This ensemble can be taken for credit.
