About this Bachelor's Degree
The Bachelor of Science degree program in human performance is designed to provide students with a foundational theory based in the movement sciences specific to professional preparation in physical education (PE) K-12 teacher licensure.
Physical education teaching specialists are now applying pedagogical skills in nontraditional instructional settings such as:
- Sport-specific community-based or residential institutions
- Correctional facilities
- Sport camps and other youth organizations
The selection of elective courses leading to a second teaching or supplemental (“add-on”) endorsement is highly recommended. Supplemental endorsements require a minimum of 21 semester hours in a content area (with a grade of “C” or better) or meeting the minimum score on the Praxis II Specialty Area Test.
Learning Outcomes/Objectives
- Students know and apply discipline-specific scientific and theoretical concepts critical to the development of physically educated individuals (NASPE Standard 1).
- Students are physically educated individuals with the knowledge and skill necessary to demonstrate competent movement performance and health enhancing fitness as delineated in the NASPE K-12 Standards (NASPE Standard 2).
- Students plan and implement developmentally appropriate learning experiences aligned with local, state, and national standards to address the diverse needs of all students.
- Students use effective communication and pedagogical skills and strategies to enhance student engagement and learning.
- Students utilize assessments and reflection to foster K-12 student learning and inform instructional decisions.
