- Two-course introductory sequence in principles of biological sciences
- General microbiology and zoology
- Genetics
- Marine biology
- Physiology elective
- Ecology/organism electives
- 10 credit hours of summer coursework in marine biology at the Gulf Coast Research Laboratory
- 16 credit hours of chemistry, including inorganic and organic chemistry
- Eight credit hours of introductory physics
- College calculus
