Consulting  |  Creative Concepts

University Communications develops and directs creative marketing concepts, communications projects, campaigns and messages for the university. We also assist other university units with creative consulting, concept development, creative copywriting and project management. We will assess your specific needs and work with you to develop a communication plan that achieves your objectives and coordinates with the overall university brand.

Managing the Southern Miss Brand

Externally, the Southern Miss brand reflects our traditions, strengths and values. Internally, this identity conveys a sense of pride and commitment to a common mission. Written and visual communications such as newsletters, brochures, websites and other marketing materials impact our image and must be kept consistent with the Southern Miss brand and identity.

Advertising

University Communications is primarily responsible for promoting and managing the Southern Miss brand. However, we strongly encourage individual university units to develop their messages in alignment with the overall university image. In doing so, all messages will work together to enhance the communications of individual units and strengthen the university brand.

University Communications manages an overall university advertising plan. Individual units are generally responsible for buying and managing their own advertising. However, our office can help any university unit with message development, creative concepts and graphic design to help ensure the success and continuity of advertising efforts.

Design Approval

University Communications is responsible for maintaining and developing university graphic standards and for ensuring that all material adheres to the guidelines set forth in the graphic standards manual. By conforming to comprehensive visual standards, we strengthen communications through order and consistency.

All communications materials representing the university must be proofread and approved by University Communications. University funds may not be used for designs that are not in compliance with graphic standards or content that has not been reviewed by our writer/editor. Procurement Services requires this approval from University Communications in order to process payment for all printed materials, advertising or promotional items representing the university.

If your communications materials require approval, email us at universitycommunications@usm.edu.
