Janet Gorzegno teaches all levels of graduate and undergraduate painting & drawing for the USM Department of Art and Design. A native of New Jersey, Gorzegno first came to Mississippi by way of New York City. She studied studio art at Drew University and The New York Studio School of Painting, Drawing and Sculpture, and received her MFA in Painting from Yale University.
Gorzegno has exhibited her paintings nationally and internationally, in solo and group shows, and has traveled nationally and abroad to pursue her creative research. She has been awarded artist fellowships and residencies from the Moulin a Nef in Auvillar France, the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, The Hambidge Center for the Creative Arts and Sciences, the Millay Colony for the Arts, and others. Gorzegno also studied fresco painting at the Accademia Caerite in Ceri (Rome) with the assistance of a USM Summer Faculty Research Grant, and in 1999 she received a Creativity Award from the University of Southern Mississippi for outstanding achievement in creative research.
Gorzegno’s current gallery affiliation is Bowery Gallery in Chelsea, New York City, where she is planning her next solo exhibition.
