The art education program is an integral part of the Department of Art and Design. The aims and goals of the program are to provide high-quality, extremely competent K-12 public school art teachers
The art content component of the art education program is especially significant--86 of 136 required hours deal directly with art studios, art education and art history courses. For example, there are four semesters of drawing, three semesters of design, four semesters of art history, two semesters of ceramics, two semesters of sculpture, and two semesters of painting and studio electives that may be taken from the studio areas of printmaking, photography or graphic design.
As you can see, the art content component is designed to provide prospective teachers with more than just introductory skills. It is essential for today's art teachers to have depth and breadth.
