Admissions policy for Visual Arts degree programs:
B.A. / B.F.A. programs only
Foundations Program
Department of Art and Design
High school graduates who have been admitted by the university and who wish to major in an area within the Department of Art and Design, must first complete the Foundation courses.
All students are admitted into the Department of Art and Design as art majors. High school graduates who have been admitted by the university and who wish to major in an area within the Department of Art and Design, must first complete the Foundation courses. Transfer students are admitted directly into the Foundation courses until their portfolio has been evaluated by faculty in their chosen area of study: Art Education, Graphic Communications, Painting/Drawing, and Sculpture. Courses covered by the articulation agreements will transfer directly, but area faculty may advise students to retake certain courses to ensure their success in the program.
The Foundation requirements are:
• The completion of 15 hours of general education requirements, including three hours in English, three hours in history, and three hours in mathematics.
• The completion of ART-101, ART-102, ART-111, ART-112,
and ART- 113, for a total of 15 credit hours.
• A 2.5 overall grade point average on the required 15 hours of general education courses and the above specified ART courses or permission of the department chair.
When a student is in the last semester of completing the foundation requirements, the student should contact his advisor in his area of concentration. The review process for acceptance into an area of study is determined by the faculty within that area. The Degree Plans are B.A. in Art, and B.F.A. with programs in Art Education, Drawing and Painting, Graphic Design, and Sculpture.
